On 1 Feb 2007, as a result of the Future Army Structure programme, The Rifles were formed.

The 5 Pillars of the Regiment is the basic structure on which the Regimental family is based and includes:

  • Regulars – 5 Battalions
  • Reserves – 2 Battalions, an independent Company and 2 Bands
  • Cadets – in excess pf 240 RIFLES capbadged Detachments and 49 Combined Cadet Forces
  • Associations (forming and antecedent Regiments) – Veterans, Sports Club and Officers’ Clubs
  • Communities/families – 65 Freedoms, 47 Afiliations
