The 6th Battalion The Rifles is a Reserve Infantry Battalion controlled by both 160 Infantry Brigade and 1 Arty Brigade. With its Headquarters in Exeter, Devon. It has detachments in Barnstaple, Gloucester, Bristol, Dorchester, Poole , Truro, Plymouth, Paignton, Shrewsbury and Hereford. As a light infantry battalion they are partnered with the 1st Battalion The Rifles and with them have recently deployed on training missions to Uganda, Slovenia and across the Middle East building on their successful operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Sport is important to the Battalion which excels at shooting but also plays other sports. The Battalion has also planned and lead adventurous training expeditions that has recently included skiing, mountaineering and multiple sea/water based activities. The 6th Battalion is home to The Salamanca Band and Bugles, a successful and internationally acclaimed marching band.
