Happy Salamanca Day, the Regimental day of The Rifles!
Even after 200 years our fallen Riflemen are never forgotten, and our troops regularly visit the town to commemorate the occasion.
Earlier in the year 2 RIFLES made the trip and more recently The Salamanca Band of 6 RIFLES bugled there in a series of commemorative events as part of Exercise Spanish Bugle.
The Battle of Salamanca was a significant engagement during the Napoleonic Wars, and all our forming regiments had antecedents present fighting in the action. The victory marked a turning point of the conflict in Spain and provided 6 RIFLES with their band’s name.
