Happy Salamanca Day!
1 RIFLES, based in Cyprus celebrated with a unique PT competition which included events such as a Land Rover relay.
The Battle of Salamanca was a significant engagement during the Napoleonic Wars, and all our forming regiments had antecedents fighting in the action. The victory marked a turning point of the conflict in Spain and provided 6 RIFLES with their band’s name.
Even after 200 years, our fallen Riflemen are never forgotten, and our troops regularly visit the town to commemorate the occasion.
