ADMINISTRATIVE INSTRUCTION FOR LIGHT DIVISION OFFICER DEVELOPMENT DAY HOSTED AT THE NATIONAL ARMY MUSEUM (NAM), 03 Jul 25
SITUATION
1. Introduction. In support of the professional military education (PME) of officers across the Light Division, Lt Col Light Div will convene an Officer Development Day at The National Army Museum, Royal Hospital Road, Chelsea on 03 Jul 2025.
2. Purpose. The development day provides an opportunity for all officers (2Lt – Maj) in The Rifles as part of the Light Division to be exposed to speakers currently in posts across Defence to enhance understanding of career-broadening roles and opportunities outside Regimental Duty (RD). Attendees will also receive a career management update from APC staff and a look at opportunities for commissioned service leavers looking at defence contractor the broader options within the UK Job Market. A provisional MEL is to follow as an additional annex (Annex B) to this instruction.
3. Attendance. This activity is open to all regular and reserve Light Division officers (DE and LE), 2Lt – Maj, serving at RD, E1 and E2. Commanding Officers are requested to encourage attendance for all Career Stage 1 officers unless on essential duties.
4. Returns. Adjutants/Unit leads are requested to complete and return the form at Annex A to SO2 Lt Div, HQ Inf no later than 1600 17 Jun. Individuals attending who are not currently at RD are requested to reply to SO2 Lt Div (please also cc.Gibbons, Michael Capt - INF HQ-LIGHT-RIFLES-SO3- [email protected] ) with their intention to attend, also by 17 Jun 25.
CONCEPT OF OPERATIONS
5. Scheme of Manoeuvre. The Officer Development Day will be held in ‘THE BOARD ROOM CONFERENCE FACILITY’ at The National Army Museum, Royal Hospital Road, Chelsea, London SW3 4HT. The nearest London Underground Station is Sloane Square on the Circle & District Lines. A draft MEL is provided at Annex B, confirmed MEL will be issued prior to the day. Attendees should plan to arrive at The National Army Museum nolater than 0930 on the day to clear security check-in. The day’s activities will conclude no later than 1630 to enable attendance at the Rifles Officers’ Dinner in the City of London for those who have booked a place.
6. Missions and Tasks.
a. Commanding Officers are requested to:
(1) Maximise attendance of Officers, including those on external postings at E.
b. Regimental Adjutants are requested to:
(1) Nominate a unit lead for the event to coordinate plans for arrival and dispersal.
(2) Distribute notification of this event as widely as possible amongst their at E diaspora.
(3) Ensure attendees have completed the visit form and have returns in by 17 Jun 2025.

7. Timings. Draft MEL (Annex B) to follow.
8. Arrival process. On arrival at The National Army Museum, attendees should show an in-date MOD90 Identity Card at the reception in the foyer of the museum. All attendees will be checked of a nominal roll for the event. Attendees will then be directed upstairs to THE BOARD ROOM where they will be met by Light Division Office, HQ Inf hosts.
9. Finance.
a. T&S. Costs fall where they lie.
b. NAM Venue Hire & catering. Venue Hire & Catering costs will be covered by RHQ fund for Div Lt Cols.
10. Media. RHQ media accounts will be used to capture content and distribute in accordance with extant media plans.
SERVICE SUPPORT
10. Dress.
a. Dress for briefers. Briefers should wear civilian business attire, suit or jacket and tie.
b. Attendees. Civilian business attire, with a minimum of jacket and tie.
11. Feeding.
a. NAM Catering. The NAM in house caterers have been booked to provide Tea, Coffee and Water throughout the day. However, the lunch meal costs are prohibitively expensive and so Lunch will not be provided. Lunch will be down to individual attendees to make their own arrangements. A generous lunch period will be built into the programme to accommodate this. There is an in-house café on the mezzanine floor below the conference room, or there are various facilities nearby on the Kings Road, Royal Hospital Road, Chelsea Road etc.
12. Transport. There is no parking at NAM. Attendees should plan on using Public Transport or Drop Off for attendance. Sloane Square Station is approximately 10min walk to and from the NAM.
13. Accommodation. Accommodation provision and cost for attendees are at the individuals’ own arrangements. Cost fall where they lie. There is no associated accommodation with the NAM. Nor available at Wellington Barracks or HQ 7 RIFLES IVG.
14. Follow-on activities. This event is running in conjunction with The Rifles Regimental Council at IVG, and precedes the annual Rifles Officers’ Dinner that is taking place courtesy of The Guild of Drapers at Drapers’ Hall, Throgmorton Avenue (for further detail see www.thedrapers.co.uk).
16. Career surgery with Lt Col Lt Div (Lt Col J Mills MBE) and SO2 Lt Div Offrs ( Maj C King) are available by appointment on Fri 4th Jul at IVG.
17. A feedback questionnaire for attendees will be issued after the day.
