In April this year, Riflemen, Lieutenant Dan Unwin and Captain Alex Aitken are running Marathon des Sables 2020 in the Sahara desert for Care for Casualties.
The MDS is a 156-mile footrace, consisting of 6 marathons in 6 days. Having recently returned from an operational tour in Afghanistan in 2019, where both took part in a 24 hour Murph for Care for Casualties, they were both looking for another challenge. MDS seems a suitably challenging event.
It is an entirely self-sustaining race. They will be carrying all our food and supplies with us as we go, less water, and staying in Bedouin tents in the desert in the evening.
Care for Casualties is a charity set up by The Rifles to support Riflemen wounded in action. Set up in 2009 the charity works hard to support soldiers with life-changing injuries sustained in both Iraq and Afghanistan. The charity also provides assistance to serving and veteran Riflemen who suffer from PTSD and mental health issues.
Please consider giving them a sponsor and share this post so they can raise as much money as possible!
