Tribute walk for Jay Whiting, a 21-year-old Army Rifleman from Plymouth

Jay Whiting, a 21-year-old Army rifleman from Plymouth, tragically died in a car crash in January 2023.
A group of 12 walkers will take part in the six-day trek to The Rifles’ base at Beachley Barracks, in Chepstow, in aid of the charitable The Rifles Regimental Trust.
The Jay’s Journey fundraiser aimed at attracting £5,000 in donations but has already more than doubled that, with £10,265 pledged on the JustGiving website at the time of writing.
Karren Whiting paid tribute to her son and stressed how proud he was to serve in the armed forces. She told PlymouthLive: “Jay was the most amazing person, his smile would light up every room he walked into.
“He loved life and made the most of every day. We miss that cheeky face and contagious laugh with every piece of our hearts.
“How lucky are we that we get to call him our son, we are extremely proud to be his parents and what an honour it is that you'll always be our boy; our son.”
She said the family will do everything they can to keep his name alive and “to show everyone what an incredible human being he was”. She said: “we love and miss you Jay, forever and always our boy.”
